People excrete everyday (if not constipated), and probably flush it down rather quickly without taking a glance. Although some people may have a good look at it to check their health conditions, there are probably not so many people who look at their stool for hours. I would not want to do that either so I searched for pictures of stool on the internet and books, and made sculptures out of clay, which I photographed.

I searched for a good angle to give some character to it, and the stool looking sculptures starts to become meaningful, and unique. The texture, colour, and size are all variable. “What could be more unique than this?” I start to think, but of course it still is just shit.

It is said that everybody is different and unique, but my question is “who decides that?” A thing may be unique in a certain situations or contexts, but not in others. Stool is a strong and straightforward subject to use for my question about belonging and categorization, although using this subject can be seen as being controversial, and this may narrow down people’s imagination and acceptance.

I tried to experiment to see how glamorous a stool can look, and I wonder why stool is still not glamorous in this day and age. How can we still produce something that is so uncomfortable and disgusting!
