Artist Statement

Hitomi Kai Yoda is strongly drawn to power relations, control, authority, and transactions, especially in relation to ‘the image’. Yoda's awareness of these factors stems from his childhood experiences of a hybrid culture, at home, school, and in society.

Through his practice, Yoda attempts to challenge constructs of both the authoritarian and unauthoritarian.  The form taken is a process of the mutual connections and influence between them both, as well as considering wider social realities.
